Young students arrive with carts of diapers and wipes to support families at HCHC’s Stone Port location.

Woodland Montessori Diaper Drive at HCHC

Harrisonburg, VA — Woodland Montessori kindergarten students, teachers, and families brought the holiday spirit to life through a joyful Diaper Drive supporting Healthy Community Health Centers (HCHC). Arriving with carts full of diapers and wipes, these young changemakers helped ensure that local families have essential supplies during a time of year when needs are often greatest.

At the Stone Port location, HCHC staff welcomed the students with a small cookie-and-drink celebration to thank them for their generosity. The students left energized and proud – proof that community engagement can begin early and make a real impact.

“We wanted to do something that was community-based. We had a connection with Natalie and HCHC and thought it was a great opportunity for something right around the corner from us. It’s something that the kids could associate with and identify with, and they understand the need for diapers and formula.”

— Jackie Morales-Shifflett, Director, Woodland Montessori School

“At HCHC, we often see families who come in with only a single diaper to last them through the day – or even the week. Providing diapers is a simple but powerful way to support these families, and it complements our Food Pharmacy program, which helps with food assistance. We also loved that this drive helped spread awareness about HCHC. Many parents didn’t even know we existed, so being able to share information about our community health center was incredibly valuable.”

— Natalie Bass, Executive Director, HCHC

Diaper insecurity is a real challenge for many families. Babies need 6–10 diapers per day, and the cost can quickly add up. Without enough diapers, parents may miss work or school, and children can face health risks. By donating diapers, you’re helping families stay healthy, reducing stress, and supporting parents in keeping their jobs and kids in daycare.

Healthy Community Health Centers (HCHC) is a nonprofit health center ensuring everyone in our community can access medical, dental, behavioral health, and pharmacy services no matter their income, insurance status, or language. In 2024, more than 14,000 children and adults turned to HCHC for care.

Donations of diapers, wipes, formulas and other essentials are always welcome at HCHC’s locations.
